The Wisdom of Hardened Hearts
There are so many posts of what is happening in the Middle East and all over. One post of a young man giving words to the hell he has witnessed is hard to view. Whether the post are real, AI generated, propaganda, or earnest human witnessing - I can not say.
It is clear that the atrocities occurring across the Middle East are real, confirmed and beyond words. And thus emotions *may* cloud discernment from a given post. Most importantly, for me, is that this is not a simple binary choice when it comes to speaking truth to the situation.
My Capricorn partner seems to cut thru everything to a simple rough perspective: X is good, Y is bad. I do not. Why? It is not because my principles are made up of jello. My principle are grounded in my faith and my love of humanity with all it's complexities. Grace is such a wonderful angel.
In the Bible, there are 17 explicit instances where “hardening the hearts” of others is used. Additionally, many stories in the Bible talk about a people who are hardened. For my point the specifics don’t matter. What is important is that once the people’s hearts are hardened - propaganda is a fog machine. Keeping people disoriented and unclear.
In the midst of such a fog a famous document was written - The Declaration of Independence. It eloquently put words to the pains of people without emotion. It did not itemize each and every horror. It did not describe the WHO, WHAT, HOW, or WHEN of future actions. It did crystalize core principles for a society to unite under. And still, with time the hearts of the very same inheritors of those principles have become hardened.
It is when one arrives at this point of reflection that one can truly see Ecclesiastics - “Everything is meaningless”… leading to understand that “fear of the Lord” is only real wisdom. For the hand of God IS acting and moving in all of today’s hardened hearts. And there is the hope for Easter.
